FEASIBILITY OF A MESHLESS STORAGE TUBE

Abstract

Effort continued to conduct a systematic study of BIC materials which can be used to demonstrate the feasibility of a meshless storage tube. Emphasis was on the search for a material with the appropriate sustained BIC properties. The search was primarily an experimental one because of the absen e of any substantive theory of sustained BIC to serve as a guide. The problem was attacked from three directions; a study of the effect of impurities on BIC in zinc sulfide, a study of the effect of electrode contacts on BIC in zinc sulfide, using electrodes with low work functions and those with barrier (oxide) layers, and a study of BIC in cadmium sulfide.
