INVESTIGATION OF A PERIODIC TRANSMISSION LINE FOR USE AS A TRANSVERSE-WAVE COUPLER

Abstract

The paper describes an investigation of a periodic transmission line intended for use as a coupler in a transverse-field electron beam device. The field distribution, interaction impedance and phase diagram are calculated. A line operating at 1000 Mc/s is constructed and its properties are measured. Despite a favourable interaction impedance the line is not well suited as coupler at low frequencies (1000 Mc/s) since large mechanical dimensions are required in order to obtain low phase velocity. However, the line may be used as coupler at higher frequencies. (Author)
