PARAMETER ESTIMATION FOR CONTINUOUSLY MONITORED SYSTEMS

Abstract

The determination of weapon system capability requires the estimation of certain system parameters such as equipment failure rate, personnel error propensity, and test coverage. This study is concerned with the feasibility of measuring these parameters for systems whose status is continuously monitored, such as is characteristic of certain portions of the Atlas weapon system. The investigation proceeds via the analysis of these system models, which successively reduce the restrictions as to possible system states, and formulas are derived for the specified parameters in each case.
