TWILIGHT INTENSITY AT 20 DEGREE ELEVATION. ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION OF OBSERVATIONS, AND APPENDIX
Abstract
Details of 93 twilights are given. An attempt is made to explain these observations and hence derive information about the composition of the atmosphere at high levels. This motivation wasA DESIRE TO OBTAIN INFORMATION ABOUT STRATOSPHERIC, MESOSPHERIC AND POSSIBLY IONOSPHERIC DUST CONCENTRATIONS. Dust has been a neglected atmospheric constituent at high levels, and computations of heat balance and chemical reaction rates normally take no note of its presence. The phenomenon of noctilucent clouds must in some way be related to the aerosol problem, eit er as the direct source of material or by supplying nuclei of condensation. (Author)
