HYDRAULIC SYSTEM - ROYAL LUBRICANT FLUID, PARTIAL EVALUATION TEST

Abstract

The purpose of this test, was to compare some critical properties of Royco 846 hydraulic fluid with those of Oronite 8515 hydraulic fluid to determine the suitability of the Royal fluid for use in the B-58 airplane. The mixed fluids sample (100 ml Royco + 200 ml Oronite) was included in the test to investigate properties of the mixture and mutual compatibility of the fluids. Results indicate that the fluids compare favorably and pass specification requirements for all properties tested with the exception of compatibility with Q2825 O-RINGS. This batch of Royco 846 had a more deleterious effect on the properties of Q2825 O-rings than did Oronite 8515, all O-ring properties tested being degraded after immersion in Royco 846.
