METHODS FOR REDUCING THE BANDWIDTH REQUIRED FOR AN IONOSPHERIC PROBE EXPERIMENT

Abstract

Techniques for processing waveforms developed in the IRL probe experiment so that the information content may be transmitted over narrow band telemetry channels are developed. An analysis of the bandwidths required to transmit the unprocessed waveform and output data with two different processing syste in the presence of noise is presented. Experimental results were obtainedAND ARE COMPARED WITH THE RESULTS OF THE THEORETICAL ANALYSIS. Conclusions show that by means of a simple processing system the bandwidth required could be reduced by a factor of 5 and the rate of data transmission increased by a factor of 6. (Author)
