TUNGSTEN FORGING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Abstract
The program was revised and extended to adapt the developed forging process to non-structural, thin section tungsten components. A Universal Thin Section configuration and tooling sequence was designed for determination of all basic parameters involved in forging of thin section tungsten shapes. Forging tooling was manufactured. Centrifugally cast and extruded W-2%Mo was selected as the forging billet material for the program. The initial large diameter cast ingot was procured to strict specifications and was successfully extruded to sound forging bar stock. (Author)
