RESEARCH DIRECTED TOWARD THE ATTAINMENT AND UTILIZATION OF HIGH TEMPERATURES

Abstract

A study of the velocity of expansion of exploding wires was undertaken and partially completed. The wire being studied was placed in series with the capacitor bank consisting of one Aerovox capacitor of 14.6 microfarad. The capacitor bank was discharged by means of a lovotron switch triggered by a rotating mirror camera. The frames of each picture w re correlated ith the current waveforms so that the exact im from the initiation of the discharge to t e first frame could be determined. The relationship of picture size to actual subject size was determined by taking a picture of an object of known dimensions and obtaining the proportionality factor from it. (Author)
