DEVELOPMENT OF REPETITIVE KILOTON THRUSTS OF MILLISECONDS DURATION FOR SIMULATING THE FIRING AND DETERMINING THE RELIABILITY OF HEAVY WEAPON COMPONENTS

Abstract

A test device for reproducing thrusts of up to approximately 2 x 10 to t e 6th power lb with concurrent pressures of 50,000 psi is described. The device generates an approximate half sine pulse at rates up to 100 per minut . The principal use of the evice is to determine the fatigue life of alternate breech designs and the condemnation limits of finalized designs. Esti ation of the reliability of breeches from results of these tests is discussed. (Author)
