Effects of Chronic Low-Level Irradiation on Mice,

Abstract

A facility for low-level irradiation with a Co60 source is described. Mice were irradiated at 0.01 r/hr. and 0.2 r/hr. for 8 hours of the day for 100 and 200 days. Following a challenge dose of rradiation of 50 r and 300 r, studies of weight, oxygen consumption, lymphocyte number, LD50/15, and response to heat stress failed to show physiologic changes that might be related to a repair phenomenon or might differentiate the preirradiated animals from the control animals.
