DEVELOPMENT OF BROAD-BAND ELECTROMAGNETIC ABSORBERS FOR ELECTRO-EXPLOSIVE DEVICES

Abstract

The relationship between the several parameters of carbonyl iron samples and the attenuation was determined. Of particular interest is the determination of which combination of parameters produces the 53 degree slope of the curve for attenuation versus frequency for this material. Attenuation measurements of one group of three ferrites were rerun at 150 to 500 mc. With the elimination of instrumentation difficulties, results are reproducible to a satisfactory degree. Readings are lower by approximately 10% but still are encouraging with respect to the apparent slope of the curve of attenuation versus frequency. Formulation of a bimetal oxalate which is decomposed at moderate temperatures yielding small particle ferrites was used to produce Ni, Co, Mn-Zn and Ni-Zn ferrites. A lubricant, binder, and wetting agent are being employed to facilitate the molding of the powder. (Author)
