HORIZONTAL ANGULAR ERROR STATISTICS' PRELIMINARY REPORT

Abstract

The correction of radar elevation angle errors due to atmospheric refraction is studied. The techniques used in this and most similar studies sume that the atmosphere is distributed such that index of refraction varies with altitude only. To test this assumption and to investigate the errors in horizontal or azimuth angle, the variation of azimuth angle readings taken by a radar on a fixed beacon was considered. A preliminary report on these experiments is presented. (Author)
