THE SCATTERING OF ACOUSTICAL WAVES BY SLENDER BODIES

Abstract

An approximte soution is given to the problem of diffration of sound waves by slender bodies. The solution is otained as the fit term in an expansion in terms of a ''slenderness parameter'' and is represented as due to a ditribtion of sources along the axis of an arbitrary body. As a test of the solution it is applied to shapes for which the exact solution is known. comparison shows that it is fairly accurate in these cases. (Author)
