HIGH PERVEANCE GUN STUDY

Abstract

Study is given of the formation of stable and well-focused, high-perveance, large diameter hollow-beams. Both magnetron injection-type guns and Pierce-type gun derivatives were investigated. A method is given for the calculation of space charge simulation currents in the resistor network whch will allow crossovers and scalloping trajectories. Some results are given with comments as to grid size necessary for good accuracy. The electrical design for an inverted magnetron injection gun is given. Characteristis of the gun, i.e., perveance, cathode loading and stability criteria are discussed. A comparison of an inverted and conventional magnetron injection gun is given with respect to the cathode vs. beam diameter. (Author)
