HALL EFFECT POTENTIOMETER STUDY

Abstract

Application of the Hall effect for use as a brushless potentiometer ws investigated. A literature survey was made of Hall effect devices available. Several types were procured and qualitative tests were conducted to determine what characteristics existed and to what extent. These characteristics which are pertinent for use as a potentiometer were checked. Magnetic and Hall device configurations were fabricated and tested for resolution, input impedance, output impedance, linearty, temper-ATURE STBILITY AND TOTAL AVAILABLE OUTPUTS. A study of available information was then made to determine theoretical limitations of performance of the Hall effect device. These findings are presented such that limitations of this device may be predicted, from the Hall effect characteristics of the best materials and possible modification of the Hal effect material for required applications.
