ELECTROCHEMISTRY OF FUEL CELL ELECTRODES

Abstract

Correlation of the polarization characteristics of electrodes with their electrocatalytic activity towards reactions in fuel cell systes is presented. H oxidation, C2H2 oxidation, and O reduction reactions were studied. The catalytic activity of Ni and is intermetallic compounds with Si, As, Sb and S for the H and O reactions were established in both alkaine and acid solutions. Potentiostatic techniques were used. The H reaction (both oxidation and reduction) on Ni in alkaline solution was examined in detail. Alloys of Pd with Ag and Au, and of Pt with Au were prepared and measurements for the H and O reactions made. Stuies of C2H2 oxidation on Pt were begun. (Author)
