STRESSES IN PRESSURIZED SPHEROIDAL SHELLS - PART II

Abstract

This investigation, based on the three dimensional theory of elasticity, deals with a confocal prolate spheroidal shell of variable thickness, subjected to constant internal gas pressure. A theoretical solution is obtained by means of an infinite Fourier Legendre series. A numerical example, using the method of sectionalization and incorporating the first ten terms of the infinite series, has been worked out and resulted in a satisfactory degree of approximation.
