DEVELOPING INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION FOR PACKAGING SPREADS AND SAUCES IN COLLAPSIBLE TUBES
Abstract
The development of packaged Quick-Serve meals as field rations includes the provision of spreads and sauces in metal colapsible tubes or pastic squeeze tubes and necessitated exploration of the use of these tubes s food containers, the available commercial production facilities for producing and filling these tubes, and the eqipment used in these facilities. This repot presents the results of such a study in sections dealing with metal collapsible tbes, plastic squeeze tubes, caps and applicators, metal tube production, plastic tube production, cap production, and filling and closing. It is concluded that there is suffiient industial capacity existing to meet military mobilization requirements for collapsible tubes and it is recommended that the Quick-Serve meal designs be completed and design confirmaion orders for tbed spreads and auces be placed. Tubes specifically designed for single use service are recommended and attention is called to a unique design of shoulderless tube manufatured from continuous lengths of tubing. (Author)
