FMS-0105 AND FMS-0132 TITANIUM ALLOY SHEET - INVESTIGATION OF AGINGCYCLE AND ADDENDUM NO. I

Abstract

Standard tensile specimens of Ti alloys FMS0105A and FM-0132 in the solution treated condition were aged for various lengths of time from 1 to 6 hr at the standard aging temperature. Tensile properties were then determined for 20 different sheets of both alloys representing several gauges and heats using a shortened aging cycle selected from the results of the initial tests. Finally, the effect of thermal exposure at 800 F for 100 hr was determined on specimens aged with the shortened cycle. FMS-0105-ST Ti sheet can be aged for 1 instead of 6 hr at 900 F and still conform to both the mechanical property and thermal stability requirements of FMS-0105 with a reasonably low rejection ate. FMS-0132ST Ti sheet suffers a significant loss in strength when the standard aging cycle of 6 hr at 925 F is reduced. (Author)
