STANDARD ERRORS OF COSMIC RAY DATA CORRECTED FOR ATMOSPHERIC EFFECTS

Abstract

A formula is obtained for the standard error of cosmic ray data which have been corrected for atmospheric effects. It is used to estimate standard errors of the nucleonic and meson components corrected by different methods. The relative standard error s found to decrease with increasing counting rate up to an approximate value of 10 to the 6th power counts per time interval if simultaneous meteorological measurements are available for each recording interval. Above that counting rate the relative standard error is essentially constant. (Author)
