MAGNETRON PRODUCTION ENGINEERING MEASURE

Abstract

Minor constructional modifications in the present BL-221 magnetron deign were investigated. Facilities capable of producing at a rate of 50 tubes per month are contemplated. Among the constructional modifications to be undertaken are: (a) Construction and evaluation of a BL-221 tube with a permanently attached Vac-Ion Pump, and (b) replacement of present glass window assembly with a ceramic or sapphire output structure. Four model tubes incorporating the modifications adopted are to be delivered to the Signal Corps for evaluation purposes and 30 additional tubes are to be manufactured for delivery after approval by the contracting agency.
