STUDY OF FABRICATION OF MICROELECTRONIC ASSEMBLIES FOR FREQUENCY AND TIME CONTROL SYSTEMS

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to design a family of micro-electronic building blocks which can be used in time and frequency control systems. A table of micro-electronic components was assembled. A frequency counter system was analyzed and information about its characteristics was readily available. Study has resulted in a modified system and the analysis of the counter gave insight into the circut problems that will be encountered in the other systems. A comprehensive survey and comparison of frequency dividers ws made. Both digital and regenerative dividers are suitable for the systems considered. The digital divider is preferred because of its modular configuration, complete freedom from adjustments, and tolerance to parameter vriations. A survey of frequency mixing circuits shows that both the transistor and varactor mixes are suitable for this application. Principle problems with mixers are gain, noise and spurious frequency signals. diode mixer, which is typical of all mixers, has been analyzed in considerable detail. Design charts showing location and intensity of spurious frequencies are presented. (Author)
