CRACK INITIATION IN METALLIC MATERIALS

Abstract

Experimental results on the standard size sheet specimens having machined surfaces are illustrated. From the lmited data availale it appears that the data are in agreement with a maxium stress failure concept and that the equivalent particle size n is approximately 0.006 in. This is consderably higher than the particle size previously reported for a brittle titanium alloy. (Author)
