SPACECRAFT ELECTRIC GENERATING AND PROPULSION SYSTEM INTEGRATION

Abstract

RADIATORS, Arc-jet engines, Leader system design procedure.A working manual and digital computer program is being developed for the system design analysis and optimization procedure known as LEADER. This procedure is then to be applied to space powerpropulsion systems employing the SPUR 350 KW and 1000 KW nuclear space power plants. Basic design ata is being obtained relating to space turbogenerators, power conditioning equipment, frequency and voltage control equipment, and arc jet and ion engine types of electrical propulsion engines. As an initial phase of the contract effort, the LEADER procedure was applied to the solution of 2 illustrative problems, optimizaion of a nuclear space power plant - transmission line system, and optimization of the design of a space power plant condensing radiator panel. The application of LEADER to the solution of these 2 problems s described in detail. (Author)
