TECHNIQUES FOR SOLVING WAVEGUIDE DISCONTINUITY PROBLEMS WITH AN INTRODUCTION TO THE ANALYSIS OF WAVEGUIDES TERMINATED BY LONGITUDINAL FINS

Abstract

A survey s made of the techniques available for solving waveguide discontinuity prolems. The work of MARCUVITZ, Collin, lewin, Noble an Schwinger is given special atention; seleted pars are summarized and collected here to obtain a complete picture. he variational technique of Schwinger and the quasi-static method of Lewin are woked out in some detail, becuse of their wide appication and simplicity; the Wiener-Hopf technique is similarly treated, because of its rigour. Fundamental equations re set up for guides of rectangular and crular cross section, whi h are partitioned into four parts at z=0 by longitudinal fins. Expreions are derived for the equivalent-circuit uceptance in ems of the two transverse components of the electric field in the z=0 pane. he procedure for obtining solutions is indicated but has not been caried out to completion.
