TEMPERATURE DETERMINATION FROM A CLOUD OF ALKALI VAPOUR IN THE UPPER ATMOSPHERE

Abstract

A new method is discussed for measuring the temperature in an artificial cloud of alkali vapour. This method overcomes the complications introduced by the process of self-absorption. Estimates of the intensities of the relevant emission lines to be observed are made. It is concluded that observations made on lithium vapour present the best means of measurement. (Author)
