HEAT TRANSFER AND DRAG RESULTING FROM SEPARATED FLOWS INDUCED BY SURFACE CAVITIES. PART I. HEAT TRANSFER AT A MACH NUMBER OF 4.5
Abstract
The results of an investigation conducted at a Mach number of 4.5 to determine the effectiveness of various two-dimensional surface cavities in reducing heat-transfer rates are presented. The heat-transfer rates, which were found to be very sensitive to wall temperature and the shape of the recompression face, were compared with the transfer rates for an attached or flat surface flow under the same free-stream and wall conditions. Two of the four cavity models resulted in lower heat-transfer rates for all test conditions. (Author)
