OPTIMIZING ENGINEERING DESIGNS UNDER INEQUALITY CONSTRAINTS

Abstract

Recent developments in mathematical research-e.g., in linear programming--are applied to additionl areas of engineering design pr blems. Something more is needed, however, if this is to be done in a completely satisfactory manner. In particular the Duffin-Zener formulations and results) need to be extended so that it becomes possible (a) to deal with the kinds of constraints that are often imposed on the design choices and (b) to establish contact with available computational theory and computer codes, etc., as well as (c) to provide a basis for further developments in computational methods and theory that is specially oriented to this class of problems.
