A CERENKOV DETECTION SYSTEM FOR USE WITH A LIQUID SCINTILLATION SYSTEM TO INVESTIGATE INTERACTIONS OF HIGH ENERGY MUONS WITH HEAVY NUCLEI

Abstract

A simple Cerenkov detector for use in selecting high energy muons from sea level cosmic radiation is described. The detector employs two water ille cylinders in a vertical arrangement, and by coincidence techniques provides a fairly well efined beam of high energy (>100 mev) muons with a flux of about 36/hr. It is designed to operate in conjunction with a liquid scintillation system for the investigation of interactions with heavy nuclei. (Author)
