MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR TOPOGRAPHICAL LINE OF SIGHT
Abstract
I ENTIFIERS: Mathematical model. The topographical characteristics of a military theater of operations directly influence the performance of communications equipment, target acquisition systems, a fl - raj ctory weapons. Consequently, any realistic simulation of combat op r io u i clu simul tion of the lineof-sight constraints. Current attempts to computerize land-combat war g m s ar han icapped by i u terrain r pre ions and by the ifficulties encountered in adapting the play of line of sight to automation. A parametric method of terrain representation is presente for pl y of line of sig . The paper delinea es th mathematical rel tionships, in terms of conditional probability density functions, for the probability that lin of ig t ists b yond a given range, and discusses he relationship b tween the natural frequency of occurrence of obscuri g p aks and the probability func ions. I L O RE T PROBLEM OF D TER INING THE PROBABILITY FUNCTIONS. It also treats the problem of d termining the prob bility hat line of igh xt s beyond a given r g ob rv io poin an t e point in questions are separated by an arbitrary number of regional boun aries ith each terrain region characterized by a different peak frequency.
