STUDY OF PULSED RADIATION EFFECTS ON MICROWAVE FERRITE DUPLEXERS

Abstract

The results are presented of a limited literature survey of experimental and theoretical workconcerned with nuclear radiation damage in solid state devices. A description of the laboratory mock-up experiments performed is included. The problems connected with microwave signal attenuation through coaxial transmission lines and the attainment of maximum signal levels at the crystal detectors are given detailed attention. Included are descriptions of the nuclear radiation environment tests to be performed. These experiments will involve the observation and recording of any changes in the operating characteristics of C-band microwave coaxial ferrite Y-junction circulators, gyromagnetic-coupling limiters, and ferrite isolators due to their exposure to pulsed neutron and gamma-ray radiation.
