A NEW DESIGN FOR TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGES USING DRAMATIC MOTION PICTURES AND PROGRAMMED LEARNING MATERIALS

Abstract

A proposed project aimed at improving language instruction methods and augmenting the capabilities of schools for teaching foreign languages effectively, even where a shortage of skilled language teachers exists, is described. Problems encountered in national foreign-language area needs are listed: (1) the teacher shortage; (2) instruction sequence and neglect of listening comprehension; (3) student motivation in foreign language teaching; and (4) the development and implementation of technological innovations. A blueprint for the development of new methods and materials and for the conduct of research to obtain answers to important foreign-language learning questions is suggested. (Author)
