SOME HUMAN-FACTORS CONSIDERATIONS IN THE ELECTRO-OPTICAL GUIDANCE CONCEPT

Abstract

Some human-factors considerations are discussed relevant to the development of an electro-optical missile-guidance system in which the missile's view of the terrain is presented to a remote operator. Such a system would employ a television sensor built into the missile, a transmission link to the airborne missile-control aircraft, a television display with appropriate controls and a transmission link from the plane to control the launching and guidance of the missile. While the operational concept is not established, typical targets are those of a close-support air operation involving such objects as tanks, bridges, tunnels, etc. (Author)
