SUPERPOWER MILLIMETER WAVE TUBE

Abstract

A new x-band Orthotron was designed after careful consideration of the fundamentals involved in the loading of spurious modes. The anode structure has twelve uniform cavities and is four free space wavelengths long. It does not employ any physical tapering and may readily be scaled to millimeter wavelengths. Identical input and output couplers are used. The energy from all twelve anode cavities is combined internally and coupled out through a 1-1/2 in. diameter, high power window. Cold testing of the couplers is underway. Electrodes for electrical discharge machining of the anode structure from a copper cylinder were fabricated. (Author)
