INVESTIGATION OF VARIOUS ACTIVATOR REFRACTORY SUBSTRATE COMBINATIONS

Abstract

Life tests, work function, and evaporation rate measurements are discussed. The barium orthosilicate cathode is nearing 6000 hours at 1 a/sq cm. The work function of tantalum silicide was measured and is very close to the value for Ta, 4.06 + 2 x 10 to the -4th power T ev. An analysis is included of the requirements and the limitations of high current density emitters. (Author)
