FIFTY-KILOVOLT HARD-TUBE MARX-CIRCUIT PULSE MODULATOR

Abstract

A description of a voltage-doubling pulse modulator employing vacuum-tube switch elements is given. Also described are several novel techniques incorporated in the driver circuitry for the modulator. In addition, modulator operation based on predicted values of stray capacitance is analyzed, and the analysis compared with the results of experimental evaluation of a model capable of producing pulse groups having an amplitude of 50 kilovolts at 20 amperes. The feasibility of this approach for providing pulse-group modulation at voltages exceeding 100 kilovolts is demonstrated. (Author)
