METEOROLOGICAL RADAR SET AN/FPS-68. PART I. CATEGORY I TESTS AT MAYNARD. PART II. ACCEPTANCE TESTS AT HANSCOM FIELD

Abstract

The results of Category I tests performed on the first (Navy designed) Meteorological Radar Set, AN/FPS-68 received for evaluation by the Air Force are provided in Part I of this report. Details of the acceptance tests performed on a second unit received for evaluation are given in Part II. Both radars exhibited evidence of limited quality control during manufacture and both units required prolonged periods of shakedown and rework before functioning in an operational manner. Component performance is measured and reported herein as well as subsystem and system performance. Significant test results are fully detailed so that analysis of these results easily leads to those recommended areas of redesign and re-engineering required to provide operation similar to that envisioned for the Air Force AN/FPS-77.
