ROCKET-BORNE IONOSOUNDER EQUIPMENT DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The equipment consists of a three-frequency topside ionospheric sounding system capable of measuring natural gradients and man-made perturbations in the topside of the ionosphere. The equipment configuration is designed specifically for inclusion in the Convair Atlas Experimental Pod program. Equipment that has been fabricated includes a 250-watt transistor high-frequency radar transmitter, receiver, programmer, power inverter, and inflatable plastic HF antenna structures. (Author)
