INFLUENCE OF COARSE PERIPHERAL RECRYSTALLIZED GRAIN ON THE TENSILE PROPERTIES AND FATIGUE RESISTANCE OF ALCUMG TYPE 2017-T4 ALLOY EXTRUSIONS

Abstract

The determination of the mechanical characteristics of the extruded bars of 2017-T4 alloy, with a recrystallized cortical zone 2 to 5 mm of thickness, shows that the tensile strength and the yield strength (determined on longitudinal direction) undergo a reduction of about 14.5 and respectively of about 10.5 kg/sq mm when the material loses the press-effect, recrystallizing. The elongation, on the contrary, increases due to the recrystallization process of about 3%. (Author)
