RADIATION BY A UNIFORMLY ROTATING POINT CHARGE

Abstract

The spectral distribution of the radiation emitted by a uniformly rotating point charge in a dielectric medium is evaluated and compared to the Cerenkov radiation of a uniformly moving charge. Two particular cases of dispersive medium are analyzed. First the orbit of the charge is assumed to be enclosed in a perfectly conducting cylinder which acts as a mirror for the radiation; in the second case the charge rotates around a dielectric rod, and an analysis is conducted of the excitation of waves which propagate along the rod.
