ON PLASMA ACCELERATION IN CROSSED ELECTRICAL AND MAGNETIC FIELDS

Abstract

The problem of plasma-stream acceleration in external constant crossed electrical and magnetic fields assuming the applicability of one-dimensional equations of continuous media was examined. Individual cases were studied: (1) flow with constant gas density along the channel and (2) flow in a channel of constant cross section at maximum plasma acceleration. An examination is made of the isothermal acceleration of a homogeneous stream of weakly ionized plasma in channels with limited angles of expansion in external constant crossed electrical and magnetic fields. The range of values of the dimensionless parameters corresponding to effective acceleration is determined. Solutions are made for problems on plasma acceleration in uniformly expanding channels at maximum acceleration and acceleration with constant efficiency. The maximum allowable values of M in effective acceleration are found. (Author)
