AN INVESTIGATION OF MAGNETIC FIELDS ASSOCIATED WITH SOLAR FLARES

Abstract

The occurrence of flares at neutral points in a field and the destruction by the flares of the magnetic fields surrounding these points are discussed. By means of a substantially improved solar magnetograph 20 recordings of magnetic fields of active groups were obtained; of these, 8 yield data only on the position of the flares, whereas 12 make it possible, in addition, to draw conclusions with regard to changes in the fields on the occurrence of flares. The fields were recorded in the lambda 4886 (Fe I) line and sometimes in lambda 4886 and H sub beta. (Author)
