ETHOLOGICAL STUDIES OF LOCALIZED RADIOLESIONS IN THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM

Abstract

OBSERVATIONS ON SOME INSTINCTIVE ACTIONS: In pigeons bowing and nest demon tr tion, wit t e appropriate calls, was elicited by electric stimulation in the preop ic region, the anterior parts of the diencephalic periventricular gray, as well s in t e paleostriatum, neostriatum. Defensive fighting a e cape were release by stimula ion in the diencephalic periventricular gray and the hypothalamus, w ereas p cking was elicited from e paleostriatu and ektostriatum. O BSERV IO O T BEHAVIOR OF PIGEONS WITH RESTRICTED LESIONS: Restricted radiolesions in th posterior and medial striatum did not produce significant cha ges in the learning ability Observations on the dam-building behavior of the beaver: Experi e t in a s ream tank indicated that dam-building is releas d by acoustical stimuli from ater ru ni g over the dam and by optical stimuli from indentations in the dam.
