DEVELOPMENT OF CLR ENGINE TEST FOR RATING AIRCRAFT ENGINE OILS

Abstract

A 40-hour, single-cylinder engine test procedure was developed which reproducibly discriminates between AEL-O-64 and AEL-O-66 Navy reference oils in regard to piston cleanliness and usedoil properties. The separation was achieved by operating a CLR oil test engine at a cylinder liner temperature of 375 F and an oil gallery temperature of 225 F. (Author)
