HIGH-TEMPERATURE OXIDATION PROTECTIVE COATIONS FOR VANADIUM-BASE ALLOYS

Abstract

The basic parameters relaing the pack-siliconizing of V-base alloys are being investigatwithe obtive of optimizing protective capability and reliability. Coating time, temperature, and the effect of double processing are beingalua andelationships drawn to the accompanying oxidation resistance and reproducibility. Oxidation behavior and other properties of compounds based on 9v, b) Ni2, (V, Nb) Ni3, (V, Nb) Co2, and (V, Nb) Co3 were studied at 2000 and 2200 F. Cobalt-containing compounds had relatively r oionsistance, whereas most of the nickel-base compositions exhibited low weight changes. (Author)
