ANALYSIS OF GASES AND METALS (SELECTED ARTICLES)

Abstract

Several methods are known for detecting oxygen in alkali metals. These methods can be divided into two groups. In the one they are based on the detection of water formed as a result of the reaction of O in the alkali metal with different reagents; in the other by the detection of O in the alkali metal by one or another means. One method is to treat the alkali metal with dry HCl at high temperature. Another is based on the use of glacial acetic acid. For successfully determining the content of O and H in alkali heat carriers, the method of vacuum extraction is described. (Author)
