On an Unsymmetric Hypersonic Flow about a Circular Cone,

Abstract

A nonviscous hypersonic flow about a circular cone at an angle of attack alpha was co si re by . L. G O OR, HO SOUG T A SOLUTION IN THE FORM OF POWER SERI S I P ILO + g ma1)/(gamma + 1) (where gamma is the adiabatic index) and obtained the first terms of the expansions in parametrically closed form. In the present work, a vortex layer, in which t e olution can ot be pproxim ed by a partial sum of a seri s i po ers of p ilon, is shown to exist near the cone surface, by reason of which it is not possible to determine the velocity components at the cone surface using A. L. Gonor's theory. A method, taking Gonor's solution as a point of departure, for obtaining the velocity components at the cone surf ce ith an accuracy O (epsilon) inclusively, is demonstrated.
