THE IMPACT OF ATTRITION ON SUSTAINED OFFENSIVE AIR OPERATIONS

Abstract

I DE IFIERS: Attri ion. Data from World War II and Korea is used to show that commanders have accepted 5% average aircraft attrition for prolonged periods. Attrition of 20-25% suffered in a short period has caused the abandonment or modification of sustained air operations. The acceptability of attrition rates between thes two levels seems to depend on factors other than the actual loss rate itself. (Author)
