THE ENERGY BAND STRUCTURE OF POLYNUCLEOTIDES IN THE HUECKEL APPROXIMATION

Abstract

Taking as model systems the polynucleotides poly A, poly T, poly G poly C and poly U in a stereo arrangement according to the WatsonCrick model of DNA, the energy bands of these macromolecules were calculated in the ueckel approximation. Simple polynomial expr ssions wer foun for the energy values as functions of cos k and with the aid of these the limits of all the occurring energy bands were determined. Some features of the obtained band structures are discussed. (Author)
