CALCULATION OF VIBRATION DAMPING IN SANDWICH CONSTRUCTION FROM DAMPING PROPERTIES OF THE CORES AND FACINGS

Abstract

The natural frequency and log decrement of free vibration in strips of structural sandwich were predicted from data on the elastic properties and energy absorption in direct stress vibration in the facing material and shear vibration in the core materials. A riveted strip was compared with sandwich of similar mass, length, and stiffness and found to have substantially lower damping capacity. (Author-PL).
